sealing surface, in a line parallel to the axis of the finish and
tangent to the threads on the finish, down to a point where the line
intersects the body (shoulder) of the container. Also, the inside
height of the closure, measured from the bottom of the closure, in
a line tangent to the threads of the closure and terminating at the
inside top of closure. |
| |
| HEADSPACE
- The space between the level of the contents in the neck of a container
and the closure. It is intended to furnish room for expansion of product
due to heat or other action after packing. |
| |
| "I"
DIMENSION - A specific minimum diameter inside the bottleneck.
A minimum diameter is specified that will allow sufficient clearance
for filling tubes to enter the bottleneck easily. |
| |
| "I.D."
- Abbreviation for Inside Diameter. |
| |
| "J"
DIMENSION - Specific finish dimension that is part of a standard
terminology used by the glass container industry. |
| |
| "K"
DIMENSION - Specific finish dimension that is part of a standard
terminology used by the glass container industry. |
| |
| "L"
DIMENSION - Vertical distance from sealing surface to top part
of neckband, i.e., where uppermost part of bead intersects container
neck. |
| |
| LIP
- The extreme outer edge of the top of a container intended to facilitate
pouring. |
| |
| "M"
DIMENSION - Specific finish dimension that is part of a standard
terminology used by the glass container industry. |
| |
| MOLD
- (Glass) A set of iron forms that are fastened on a bottle machine
to provide a means of shaping a glass container. Parts of the set
are tips, neck rings, blank molds, finish molds, and bottom plates
with a plunger used in producing wide mouth containers. |
